Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC), Òmnium Cultural, Drets and the Plataforma ProSeleccions Esportives Catalanes will carry out a series of actions to call upon the UEFA to respect the Barça fans’ freedom of expression. The aim is to protest against the sanction imposed on the Catalan club for the ‘estelades’ flags flown and the cries for independence in the game against Bayer Leverkusen. Tomorrow three hundred volunteers will hand out 30,000 ‘estelades’ in the hours leading up to the game that brings Barça against Bate Borisov.

As part of the protest, more than three thousand international journalists will be sent information on the sanction that Barça has been imposed, a brief history of the ‘estelada’ flag and a selection of images to show that it is a symbol deeply-rooted in the world of sport and that even the Parliament of Catalonia has given its support in a resolution.

For its part, Drets has informed that as an entity that defends the rights and the dignity of the Catalans, it will lodge a judicial plaint on behalf of several members of Barça for the flagrant breach of their fundamental and constitutional rights.

Similarly, consideration is being given to turning to international instances, like making a complaint to the Council of Europe and taking the plaint to the European Court of Human Rights when this is possible. The complaint will also be made before the European Parliament through the different parliamentary euro groups in which CDC and ERC are represented.
