Amnesty International (AI) and its director in Europe, Fotis Filippou, have sent a support and solidarity letter to Catalan civil society leaders Jordi Cuixart (president of Òmnium Cultural) and Jordi Sànchez (former president of the Catalan National Assembly), who have been in preventive prison for more than a year now.
Amnesty announces that they will “monitor” the oral hearings in the trial starting next year, to “assess whether fair trial guarantees are fullfilled”.

In the letter, Amnesty demands once again the immediate release of Cuixart and Sànchez, as their pre-trial detention is “unjustifiable” and they and their families live an “unfair” situation. They also ask that the rebellion and sedition charges “are withdrawn”.
