The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, Mary Lawlor, has called for the immediate release of Òmnium Cultural’s President Jordi Cuixart on the third anniversary of his imprisonment. This petition is in addition to the request of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which demanded the release of all political prisoners in Spain.
Today marks the third year in detention for Catalan #humanrightsdefender Jordi Cuixart. In 2019, the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found his detention to violate both the UDHR and ICCPR and deemed it arbitrary. He should be released. @jcuixart

Other organizations such as Amnesty International, the World Organization Against Torture and Front Line Defenders have also called for the release of Catalan activists Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sànchez on several occasions. However, Spain has ignored so far the requests of all the international human rights organisations.
