The Catalan MEP Clara Ponsatí has criticized the European Parliament for its hypocrisy and for defending human rights only depending on which member state is affected. “Orban’s abuses have been tolerated for a long time and he knows that the Council and the Commission will end up finding a political solution. As long as member states can veto this Parliament’s grand statements about the rule of law, they are largely hypocrisy. ”

Ponsatí also pointed out the case of the Catalans and dennounced that their rights are “of no concern to this Parliament”. She gave the example of a recent report by the Commission on the rule of law, which did not mention Amnesty International’s statements on Catalan political prisoners and the ruling of the UN Arbitrary Detention Group.
