The proposal to present a civil list in favour of independence at the 27-S elections is taking form. It might be a candidature which would have the support of the principal entities of civil society in favour of independence, as well as the independentist political parties. Both the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) and Òmnium Cultural are already working on this proposal. Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya is in favour (the president of Catalonia and leader of the party, Artur Mas, made a proposal to the entities along these lines) and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) is also prepared to accept the formula. The third clearly independentist party of the Parliament, the Candidatura d’Unitat Popular (CUP), is still holding internal discussions on whether or not to join.
The partners of the ANC this weekend backed the option of the entity becoming involved in drawing up a transversal electoral proposal, which received a favourable 96% in the internal consultation held. Now the entity’s secretariat is working to pin down the electoral proposal, which might be this single independentist list. As for Òmnium, it has called on the territorial assemblies to approve the decision to become involved in politics, and they have agreed.
In the coming days this independentist electoral proposal could take its final shape. It will be necessary to define who will lead it, the names that will form a part. One of the options on the table is that it should be formed exclusively by figures of civil society, without the presence of politicians. CDC and ERC would be prepared to accept this condition. However it would be strange if the leaders of the three independentist political parties, Artur Mas (CDC), Oriol Junqueras (ERC) and David Fernàndez (CUP), were not on the list.
