On December 12, Carles Puigdemont was interviewed by former President of Ecuador Rafael Correa on the television program he presents at Russia Today (RT). This conversation was also watched on the TVE news channel through the action of some hackers.

The broadcast on the Spanish channel went apparently unnoticed, but statements by RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan collected by Russian RIA Novosti news agency have leaked the news: “Hackers got into the Spanish +24 channel and switched their transmission for ours. We ended up having an interview with Puigdemont, the main Catalan independence leader. Our transmission lasted the whole evening. We don’t know who did it but it was beautiful.”

The interview with Puigdemont, aimed at an international audience, dealt with the reasons for Catalan independence, the right to self-determination and the barriers for the movement to reach its goal. In this regard, Puigdemont was clear: “There is one thing we give up: violence. Will Spain renounce to violence to prevent Catalonia’s independence? I would like to know the answer”, Puigdemont asked.
